ELENI KYRIOU On January 4, 2003, Eleni Kyriou, widow of Abraham Kyriou and our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away in her sleep. Eleni was born in Samsun, Turkey on November 25, 1909, of Greek-Cypriot parents. She left Turkey at the age of two moving to Cyprus where she grew up and married Abraham. In 1938 she immigrated to England and subsequently to Canada in 1964, settling in Winnipeg, MB. Her life will be celebrated by her daughters, Niki Shamtanis and Gloria Fatouros; also her son-in-law Tony Fatouros; together with her grandchildren, Helaine, Alex, and Dean Shamtanis, Tony Jr., Diana, Elliott Fatouros; as well as her many friends. Eleni is also survived by her loving sister Nina Perry of Sydney, Australia and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Abraham, six brothers and son-in-law Nick Shamtanis. Prayers were held on Tuesday, January 7, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Demetrious Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., with interment following in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., and a reception that will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Park Manor, 3199 Grant Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3R 1X2, who gave her such wonderful care over the years.
